Recently I was asked by a friend to design an apron with a boot motif. I was honored, since the apron was to be a gift for her friend who is battling cancer. Their motto is “You can kick this!” so they like to send her mementos of this reminder, and thus the boot theme!

Of course, being from Texas I thought this would be lots of fun. I love looking for new fabrics and cowboy motif fabrics are aplenty, but I needed to find just the right one. I found the most delightful fabric just perfect for the theme! The fabric has a blue denim background with red, white, and blue boots scattered across, along with some greens and browns mixed in as well. I also found coordinating star fabric, from which I made the pockets and waistband. The apron pattern itself is a 1950’s original; don’t know why, but the slanted pocket position reminded me of gun holsters! Comes in handy for the quick-draw cell phone! The waistband measures 26 inches and the length is 16 ½ inches.

If you would like to purchase an apron, visit I will gladly donate $5.00 to The American Cancer Society for each ‘Howdy Cowboy!’ Apron ordered. If you or a loved one have battled this horrific disease, our prayers go out to you.

“Let’s kick this!”
